For most people, price is high on the list of things to consider when comparing espresso machines, however, when it comes to espresso machines you’ll usually get more features for your money. You may also find that the more expensive models are of a higher quality and have more metal parts and less plastic, in addition to more bells and whistles. However, if you only want an occasional cappuccino or latte, one of the cheaper models may well suit your needs.

The type of machine you want will have an impact when comparing espresso machines, as well.

Semi-automatic machines have a pump to provide the brewing pressure which is controlled by the machine as is the temperature. However, you’ll still have to grind the beans, dose and tamp the grinds and control the length of time and the volume for the brew.

The next step up in espresso makers is the automatic espresso machine, which also has a built-in pump for pressure and, like the semi-automatic, you need to grind the beans and dose and tamp the grinds. However, the automatic machine automatically controls the amount of espresso it brews.

At the top of the heap is the super automatic espresso machine which does it all, automatically. It grinds the beans, doses and tamps the grinds and brews at a preset volume. It will even dispose of the used grounds, all at the push of a button.

So remember, when you’re comparing espresso machines, it’s important to determine how much money you want to spend, which features you really want and which features you can live without.
